Adam and Eve

Adam, a cowpoke of old, got to wondering as he sat and whittled,
Eve was different from himself, who would fuss while he fiddled.
The Big Trail Boss took a rib from out of his side to make this mysterious entity.
Who was soft to the touch, easy to the eyes and willing to please.
The Boss called her woman because she came from man.
Created to give birth to children to complete the human clan.

She was definitely different, not just in body but also spirit and mind.
Adam sure wished the Big Trail Boss had warned him ahead of time,
That she would be as contrary as any mule he'd ever created
And his ability to tame her would be highly overrated.
Because she would let him chase her until she got him caught
And make him believe her brilliant idea was something that he had thought.

The Big Boss gave this woman creature with wiles like none he ever knew
Coaxing, pushing and coercing him into things he didn't want to do.
She could bring him to his knees with a just a look or a sigh.
And jab him in his ribs if he watched another filly walking by.
She held his heart softly cupped within her gentle hands
Yes, the she might of come from the he, but seems the she was in control of man.

Don't get me wrong; I do think the Creator knew what he was doing
And he put the things in Eve that Adam was pursuing
Like a kind word after a long hard day and some warmth from the cold
A friend to ride the trails with and a partner with whom he could grow old.
A calmer head at times or different way to act
Quick to want to help out and slow to want to turn back.

She's been the constant in a life full of things that change.
Gave birth to all the children and gave them all a name.
Stood beside my side through things that would break your heart,
Seen me fumble and falter and gave me more than one new start.
Don't know how she got so wise while I've remained so dumb.
Had that real fine touch when I was nothing but thumbs.

The Big Trail Boss knows why he put me here and how my life would be.
And me made me a survivor and a conqueror and one of the brave and the free.
He gave me some talents and things I would need to do his work
A place to live, a job to get to and the pleasures of this earth
But he knew the are things he left out, so I'd be a little incomplete
And gave them all to my cowgirl who is both tough and sweet

Yeah, old Adam, he got to conjuring one day just how his life would be
But in his wildest imagination he just couldn't figure it without Eve.
