Critters on our place pretty much abound
A husky, a white rooster and a cat or two hanging around
Sometimes rabbits and possum and maybe a prairie dog
There are three horses, a grey wolf and that cow dog
Sometimes you can see a coyote out on the prowl
Moles, squirrels, armadillo, quail and other fowl
Or a road runner zipping about and haven't you heard
That scissor tail fly catcher, robins and humming birds
All the other animals I really like to see
But one that reminds me most of you and me
He's black with a stripe and a bushy tail
And I don't like to cross this varmints trail

Cow dog has got him cornered once or twice
And what this animal did weren't very nice
It goes without saying he really got paid
Cow dog charged him and then he got sprayed
And it weren't perfume that hit him full force
All over his body, right from the source
With skunk juice that makes your eyes water
That took time and weather to fully alter

Some people are like that treacherous skunk
They'll hit you dead on with all of their gunk
You got to leave 'em alone to go their own way
Or they'll leave you splattered with nothing to say

That's what happens to people who don't know the Lord
Then they'll unload their anger at the slightest word
They store up their misery and sorrow by the bucket
From deep in their souls where they've learn to tuck it

The Bible says not to repay them like you've been treated
But to offer some mercy and often repeat it
Show them Christ who lives within your heart
A smile and a kind word is a good place to start

Listen to their woes and be willing to pray
Tell em you love em and try to brighten their day
Then like a skunk who has loss his stink juice
He'll smell better and so will you
